Drab and Beautiful

I'm a big fan of drab colours - they exude an aged elegance which I find hard to resist. Pair these colours with whites or off whites to keep them from feeling too heavy. And pair with metallics to really make these colours shine.

Companies like Farrow & Ball and Emery & Cie create beautiful drab colours which are offered in a beautiful and velvety matt finish. Find my favorites below!

Colour Forecast - Dusty Rose

Dusty Rose is not exactly a go to colour for me - I generally associate it with ribbon gracing the necks of geese on porcelain from the early 90's, but I think it is this walking a thin line between dated and re-emerged that makes this colour edgy. Baby blue and buttercup yellow will be definite omissions from this palette. Pair dusty rose with heaps of neutrals and greys to keep it current.

Colour Forecast - Mustard...sort of

From markwu.info

I have a tendency for using colours you can't quite put your finger on. Not quite this, but with a bit of that - an undertone of...etc. etc. I believe colour is at its best when you walk into a room and the feeling and atmosphere of the colour takes over as opposed to its definition. My latest inspiration mustard, comes with a hint of brown to give it age, a dash of red to make it less acidic and green. Cane and Sand from Farrow & Ball are both unusual colours, but can create dramatic impact if used correctly!
